Kokopelli: Fluteplayer Images in Rock Art
Published in Paperback by Ancient City Pr (June, 1994)
Authors: Dennis Slifer and James Duffield
Average review score:

Well-researched study about Kokopelli
There are numerous petroglyphs and pictographs throughout the American Southwest. Some of that artwork created between 200 B.C. until the 17th century, show Kokopelli, the fluteplayer -- a sacred figure to Native Americans as well as modern popular culture icon of the region.

The geologists Dennis Slifer and James Duffield introduce the reader to the world of Kokopelli, describing his many guises by analyzing dozens of rock art sites. Moreover, they also take a closer look at how Kokopelli is represented in ceramics and kiva murals. The study is rounded off by mentioning the myth surrounding Kokopelli and by telling some Native American stories about the often humpbacked fluteplayer who symbolizes fertility among other things.

The book is richly illustrated with maps, sketches, black and white as well as a few colored photos. Artists will surely be inspired by the multitude of Kokopelli portrayals as well as other petroglyph motives. This excellent study is also recommendable for everyone interested in this part of American Southwestern history.

a perfect source of inspiration
I gambled when I ordered this book, since I hadn't a clue what I'd find inside. And this gamble paid off! What a fantastic compilation of kokopelli imagery....a marvelous source of inspiration for my own carving work. You will find photographic documentation of the original petroglyphs as well as line-drawings....masses of them! And the discussion of the mythology behind kokopelli gives life to these spritely images. One of the best buys I've made this year! I've recommended it to others I know who work with ancient imagery.

Authors: Larry Goshen, Mark Shaw, and Buddy Montgomery
Average review score:

Dozens and dozens of Indiana singers, bands and music teams
Compiled by Larry Goshen with the assistance of Mark Shaw, Let The Good Times Roll: An Anthology Of Indiana Music - Rock, Pop, Jazz & Country is a straightforward listing of dozens and dozens of Indiana singers, bands and music teams, offering very brief descriptions and illustrated with black-and-white photographs. Ranging from Michael Jackson; Axl Rose, and Hoagy Carmichael, to Janet Jackson, David Baker, and The Faith Band, Let The Good Times Roll is a simple and "user friendly" reference which is organized by decades from the 50s to the 90s with chapters dedicated to "Country and Western Guys and Gals"; "Jazzmakers"; and "Indiana Notables".

Let The Good Times Roll Rocks and Rolls
Larry Goshen's historical perspective of Indiana music is terrific. He not only features the knowns such as Michael Jackson, John Mellencamp, Wes Montgomery, and Cystal Gayle, but the unknowns like Dow Jones and the Industrials, P. S. Dump Your Boyfriend and many others. This book is a treasure chest of memories.

Let's Rock!: Rock Painting for Kids
Published in Paperback by NorthWord Press (01 June, 2003)
Author: Linda Kranz
Average review score:

Rock the Best
Linda Kranz has created a virtually new art form for families. Of course, rock painting is an ancient art, but how many families have been having fun lately creating stone pizzas, footballs, and messages of love? The color photography and multiple examples are great and very appealing. No one could ask for directions that are more clear and precise. The best part of the volume may well be all the great patterns at the end of the book. This is a terrfic family book. Highly recommended. BOTH kids and parents will love this one!

Let your joy and creativity soar!
Let's Rock is a terrific "hands on" introduction to rock painting for kids...but don't let the title keep the "big kids" (adults) from picking this book up for themselves. Author/artist, Linda Kranz, has provided the artist hiding in all of us to look at the rocks that surround us through a different set of eyes and then to transform them into delightful, miniature works of art. I have worked in the arts and crafts field for nearly 30 years and finding "how to" books that truly show each step from materials, patterns, and easy to apply techniques that will give the user the same professional looking finished product are not always available. "Let's Rock," however, provides that and more. Each step is shown in full color and is easy to follow for kids and adults and all of the designs displayed are included among the over 100 patterns that are inside the book. If you ever felt the desire to paint and were afraid that you didn't have the talent, "Let's Rock" will introduce you to the brush in a delightful way that will have you painting with joy and whimsy.

Letter Sounds: Phocis for Beginners
I can't say enough about this tape and book! I started playing this tape for my son when he was about 2. He loved it. Everytime we drove in the car, he wanted to hear it. It's got a fun beat (easy for parents to listen to!) and a great book with lots of color. In fact, I had to order extra books, because his friends wanted to have their own when they were in the car. My son turned 6 in December. He began sounding out words when he was 4, and was reading words on his own by 4 1/2. Now he's way beyond any of his peers, reading at the 3rd grade, 8th month level. His spelling is also exceptional. I truely believe I owe it to his early introduction to this book!

Fast and Easy Phonics
I purchased Rock 'N Learn Letter Sounds for my two year old daughter. She loved following along in the work book to the very catchy songs. There are many colorful pictures to hold her interest. Also, it has a quick pace to keep her interested, but not too fast for her to keep up. She learned her letters and all their sounds before she turned three. We are now moving on to side two of the tape that teaches her to read whole words. I went to a local teacher supply store and asked for a recommendation for teaching early phonics. They told me this was the best out there. I agree. Furthermore, the music is actually pretty good so it doesn't drive parents crazy.

Letting Down My Hair: Two Years With the Love Rock Tribe--From Dawning to Downing of Aquarius,
Published in Hardcover by E P Dutton (November, 1973)
Author: Lorrie. Davis
Average review score:

Terrific read! Ms. Davis knows how to tell it like it was!
I couldn't put down this fascinating book. Perhaps it's because I felt that I was getting to know the people I saw on stage performing in that incredible, groundbreaking, entertaining show. The real story is just as entertaining, and Ms. Davis has taken us backstage to peak at just how amazing those times were !

Gimme a head with HAIR!
Although out of print, if you're interested at all in the show "Hair" or just the 1960's and the counterculture movement, get your hands on this book! Davis chronicles not only the decline of the joyous Broadway musical, but also the end of the "love and peace" era. Also gives a fascinating look at the unorthodox creation of one of the most unique experiences in theatre history. A great read!

Life is Peachy
Published in Paperback by Warner Brothers Publications (January, 2000)
Author: Korn
Average review score:

Great Korn Songbook
This book is great, it has an incredibly documented tablature, the lyrics for all the songs, and it even includes "Blind" and "Shoots and Ladders" in the back after the "Life is Peachy" set of songs. Even if you just want the lyrics, it's interesting.

I was also kind of amazed at exactly how low and high some of the notes were; I don't know why, I've listened to Korn for years, but I guess seeing it on paper is just fun. Anyway, it was well worth the money.

Great
It was Great. All Korn fans will love it.
